Our Approach
Change Begins With
One Girl
At Ekakanya, the foundation works hand in hand with rural families and communities in Rajasthan to turn barriers into opportunities and spark transformation that lasts for generations.
Our Four Pillars of Transformation
From the very beginning, Ekakanya recognised that real change could not come from quick fixes. It had to be rooted in understanding, built with compassion, and carried forward by communities themselves. That is why the foundation's approach rests on four pillars: each one connected, each one strengthening the other.
Evidence-Based Interventions
Ekakanya was born out of research that revealed the steep barriers girls face: early marriage, malnutrition, and lack of education. That same spirit of inquiry continues to shape everything that the foundation does. Before beginning work in a village, the team listens, studies, and learns. This is how Project Parinati took shape—young women training as Change Leaders in health, leadership, and financial literacy. It is also how the foundation built its university preparation and KPO livelihood programs. Every initiative grows from real stories, real data, and is measured both quantitatively and qualitatively to ensure it truly matters.
Community at the Center
Change becomes powerful when it’s shared. At Ekakanya, every girl who takes a step forward sparks conversations in her home, her school, and her village. A daughter negotiating her right to study longer inspires neighbors to rethink what’s possible for their own children. Local leaders begin to support education more openly, and mothers gather courage to challenge traditions they once accepted as unchangeable. What starts as one girl’s journey quickly grows into a collective shift—families and communities standing together to build a different future.
Research-Driven Strategies
This balance of knowledge and community guides how Ekakanya designs its programs. The foundation brings together both scholars and grassroots workers, ensuring that every idea is tested against reality. Menstrual health becomes a conversation free from stigma. Digital skills lead directly to jobs at our Rural KPO Centre, where many young women earn their families’ first steady incomes. By weaving careful planning with practical action, Ekakanya ensures that what girls learn is not just theory – it is a tool for immediate change.
Intergenerational Influence
Change doesn’t end with one girl – it spreads. Many Parinati graduates are now the first in their families to enter university, inspiring their younger sisters and cousins to dream even bigger. Parents who once resisted now speak proudly of their daughters’ independence. In villages where early marriage was once the rule, more than 43 percent of girls in Ekakanya’s programs remain unmarried at 24, choosing higher studies or careers instead. Each step forward sparks new possibilities, reminding communities that one girl’s progress is never hers alone.
“Ekakanya’s goal is to empower the young girls and women socially and economically, expanding the horizons beyond domestic chores, farming, early marriage, and pregnancy.”
